Flutter Home Folded Stationery by Sweet Cricket

Flat stationery cards not your thing?  Well, never to worry, we have a extensive collection of folded stationery cards too.  Our folded cards are printed on the same high quality 110# paper and feature color/design on the front and back with a blank area inside for your message.

The Flutter Home stationery on the right makes use of a time honored tradition – the monogram – but instead of being old fashioned and stuffy, this monogram is hip and modern.

Make it even more special by adding return address printing to your envelopes!  Your return address will be printed on the back of each envelope in the same font as your stationery for a coordinated look.

Birth Announcements – Ideas for Unique Birth Announcements

Nature Baby Birth Annoncements

Looking for some ideas for the design of your birth announcements?  Well, look no further!  I’ve compiled a short list of birth announcement ideas to aid you in choosing the perfect new baby card for your little one.

If you are anything like me, your fridge is crowded with all kinds of social stationery – wedding invitations, party invitations, birth announcements, and the like.  While I tend to take most stationery off of my fridge after the event has passed, I leave the birth announcements up there for a long time.  Why?  Well, first, because they really don’t “expire” as an invitation does – I mean it would look pretty messy to have an invitation on your fridge for a party that happened 6 months ago, but for a baby that was born 6 months ago?  That birth announcement has many months ahead of still being up there, front and center!

So how are you going to choose a birth announcement that you will still see on your friend’s bulletin boards and refrigerators for months to come?

Birth Announcements Idea #1:  Choose a non-traditional color scheme.

Nature Baby Birth Annoncements

This design is sure to stand out in a sea of blue and pink birth announcements.  While the colors still suggest “girl” by using red and a splash of pink, it actually has more of an earthy, autumn feel.  Its design is interesting enough to really draw the eye to this birth announcement.

Birth Announcements Idea #2: Include an offbeat or humorous saying or quote

Darling Dots Birth Announcements

If people think it’s funny, clever, or if they just plain get a kick out of it, this birth announcement idea is a winner.  Coming up with a cheeky saying for your birth announcement is totally unexpected, like in this example “My new baby sister is CUTE but LOUD”!  People will like to show this new baby announcement off to others – who knows – if you are witty enough, it may just become a conversation piece in someone’s home!

Birth Announcement Ideas #3:  Include a Sibling

Twins Birth AnnouncementsWhether it’s siblings who are twins, like in the birth announcement shown here, or siblings of different ages (or even pet ‘siblings’!) this birth announcement idea works because people really do like seeing the whole family.  While it’s true that maybe the second sib should have a birth announcement all to him/herself (I mean, they have to share everything else, right!?) I really do think friends and family love to see a sibling birth announcement in a pretty envelope arrive in their mailbox.

As always, all of the birth announcements you see here (and more!) are available at Sweetcricket.com’s  Birth Announcements section.

Product Spotlight: Flutter Home Collection

moving announcements, invitations, and thank you cards

The Flutter Home collection consists of  moving announcements, housewarming invitations, and  folded personal stationery/thank you cards with a monogram.  I created this suite of stationery products for a client who was just getting settled in to a new home after a move and was looking for a matching set of stationery that would complement her moving announcement.  She was eager to invite family and friends to her new home and wanted  serene, casually elegant housewarming invitations with matching monogrammed thank you notes.

Flutter Home Monogrammed Stationery

The folded card features a butterfly and fern design in a creamy white color at the bottom of the stationery.  Your monogram sits atop the elegant design in the same creamy white, and a soft brown color for the middle initial.  If you prefer, this stationery can be easily modified to remove the monogram and put your full name or a phrase (i.e. thank you) in its place.

This folded stationery is printed on 110# extra heavy card stock on a digital press, ensuring vivid colors and a crisp finish to the fonts and design.  Its size (when folded) is 4.25 x 5.5 inches.

Flutter Home Housewarming Invitation

The Flutter Home party invitation was used as a housewarming party invitation in this example (names and addresses changed from original).  This housewarming invitation features the same casually elegant butterfly design as the rest of the set, except it is featured twice on this invitation – at the top and the bottom of the invitation text.

This housewarming invitation is printed on 110# extra heavy stock using a digital press, just like the others.  Its size is 5 x7 inches, which is standard for most invitations.

I could see this housewarming invitation being used for a variety of other occasions – a garden party, a bridal shower or engagement party or even a graduation party.  All the text is customizable, so this invitation is really suitable for any occasion you can imagine!

Flutter Home Moving Announcement

And finally, the moving announcement – the design that started it all.  You can see that we used a different font in the title text of these moving announcements that is light, airy, and romantic – just like the moving announcement design.

The size of the moving announcement is 4 x 5.25, perfect for the recipients to display on the refrigerator with a magnet, tack onto a bulletin board for easy viewing, or file away in an address book.  It is printed on 100# extra heavy stock using a digital press to ensure the final product is extremely high quality.

I had such a great time creating this stationery suite!  You can find all the components, sold separately, on our website:  at SweetCricket.com.  I’d love to know your thoughts!  And if you are in the market for moving announcements, party invitations, or any kind of stationery and would like to inquire about a custom design, please send me an email at kate@sweetcricket.com.

The Lost Art of Note Writing

personal stationery

I was talking with a friend of mine who is a high school teacher the other day, and we were talking about how much things have changed since we’ve been in school. One change that I wasn’t aware of was the loss of the all important agenda book. You know, that special calendar notebook that you wrote down (by hand!) all of your homework, activities, and reminders in.

I can remember spending so much time at the start of each school year, trying to choose just the right agenda book with the best cover and most functional page layout for my needs. I would carefully write in all my activities and reminders in my favorite color pen and I loved seeing my day, week, and month laid out for me, looking back at me in my own handwriting. Homework would be written in another pen color, and my work schedule in yet another.

I’ve still saved all of those agenda books, from junior high school all the way up through college, where, incidentally, I would write in date nights encircled with hearts with my then-boyfriend….never knowing he would one day be my husband.

But my friend told me that when class is over and she asks the students to copy down the homework from the board, almost no-one actually writes it down. Almost all of her students text it to themselves, type it into the calendar on their phones or blackberries, or – get this – take a picture of it with their cell phones.

And who can blame them, really?  I certainly don’t write down much anymore.  With grocery list generators, and online shared calendars, and email & texts, the need to put pen to paper is going by the wayside.

I may type or text more than I write now for most of my practical, everyday needs, but I still love to sit down at my desk with my favorite colored pen and some beautiful stationery and pen a note to a friend to thank her for dinner, or write to my Grandmother and tell her all the things my daughter and I have been up to.   And yes, usually by the time I am done writing, my hand hurts.  There is ink smudged all over the side of my hand (I’m a lefty!), and it has taken me much longer to do than if I had sat down at my computer.

But, as I seal the envelope and carefully write the address on the front, I always have a sense of satisfaction that fills and warms my heart like email could never.  I know that in a couple of days the recipient of my note is going to smile at her mailbox when she sees my envelope.  She will love the pretty paper and hear my voice through my handwriting as she silently reads my note.  And, chances are, she will save it in a box somewhere, and have the same lovely sensory experience when she comes across it next time, months – or even years-later.  She’ll be reminded of a special moment, and of our friendship.

So that’s why I’m working so hard to preserve the Lost Art of Note Writing.  There is something  just so special about sending and receiving a personal note on spectacular stationery that email or texting could never replace.
